Established 1962. Howell L. Watkins, born in 1894, was a World War I Veteran. He moved his family to West Palm Beach in the 1930s, where he served as principal of Palm Beach High School and later as the superintendent of Palm Beach County Schools. He co-founded Palm Beach Junior College, now Palm Beach State College, and served as an unpaid dean and teacher during the Great Depression.
